Homely overnight stays
with a warm welcome

West Winds Walker's Lodge offers affordable, comfortable overnight stays with optional breakfast and packed lunch. We are situated in a quiet location away from the main road and can almost guarantee a night free of traffic and other urban noise. Outside are dark night skies with, depending on the weather of course, panoramic views of the stars.

West Winds Walker's Lodge is on the Dales Way, Wainwright's Pennine Journey, Lady Anne's Way and the Inn Way

Our position on the Dales Way, Wainwright’s Pennine Journey, Lady Anne's Way and the Inn Way makes our Walker's Lodge a must for trail walkers and our accommodation is also ideal for weekend walkers, families and small groups.

When you arrive at West Winds, we provide a welcoming pot of tea and home-made cake in our tearooms. All guest rooms have central heating and a television. Each room has a washbasin and a shared bathroom is close by. A tea/coffee tray allows you to make a drink at any time, for which we provide fresh organic milk.

If it’s a fine evening you can sit out in the tea-garden and watch the bats emerging from our eaves or take a stroll down by the river and try to count the swallows as they dart and swoop. Alternatively, try some traditional Yorkshire beers in one of the local pubs.

Our food hygiene is rated as very good

The next morning we would love to provide you with a hearty breakfast to help you on your way and you can look forward to a wide range of choices, both cooked and continental, served in our tearooms between 8am and 9am. We wouldn't want you to set out on your walk hungry!

Our packed lunches are also legendary and cost just £6, which includes a sandwich, home-made scone with jam, home-made cake and a piece of fruit. We’ll also happily fill up your flask with a hot drink from the kitchen, free of charge.

Double room at West Winds

We have a double room and two single rooms. Full bed and breakfast is just £60 for two sharing the double room (or £35 single occupancy). If you prefer to cater for yourselves or make an early start before breakfast, the room-only rate for the double room is £50 for two people (or £30 single occupancy). Full bed and breakfast in a single room is just £30, with a room-only rate of £25.

And if you stay for more than one night, you'll save £5 per person on each and every extra night.

If you are part of a larger party, we can offer accommodation for up to eight people in conjunction with the Mad Hatter Bed and Breakfast, also in Buckden and just two minutes' walk from West Winds Walker's Lodge. Please call for details.

Please note that West Winds was built in the 1850s and the layout of the building remains much as it was then. All bedrooms are on the first floor, the stairs are steep and there is a sharp turn and a small landing. If you have mobility difficulties please contact us so we can discuss whether West Winds meets your requirements.
